Hi there. I’m Kirsten Nicolaisen, a freelance photographer based in Brooklyn, New York.

 

I’m an avid runner, hiker, and traveler, equally drawn to the pulse of a vibrant city and the serenity of the great outdoors. These passions inspire my work, which focuses on street, travel, and lifestyle photography.

I’m driven by a desire to capture beauty in all forms — not just the grand but also the everyday: overlooked beauty in the mundane, curious beauty in the decrepit, quiet beauty in a ripple on water, bitter beauty in moments of sorrow. My goal is to evoke a sense of nostalgia and familiarity in my images, memorializing still points in our turning world.

 

Originally from Los Angeles, I spent eight years in the Pacific Northwest before moving to New York in 2018. In addition to photography, I have a decade of experience as an audience journalist. My work in the news industry afforded me opportunities to document significant events and refine my editorial style. 

 

Lately, I’ve focused on commissioned work for food, hospitality, weddings, and engagements.
