  • Kirsten produces and edits social media content for one of the largest daily news paper publishers in the U.S. -- the New York Post -- boasting a combined social following of nearly 7 million across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with an average monthly reach of more than 22 million on Facebook. 
  • Kirsten is responsible for optimizing original content and breaking news for social platforms, driving to the NYP website grossing over 200 million average monthly page views.

  • Kirsten brought KATU News' Facebook page to number one in the market each month for total interactions and video views, highest engagement rate and largest follower growth, with a monthly reach of more than 12 million. KATU's Facebook page consistently outpaced those of three other market television stations and Oregon's largest newspaper by a sizable margin. She also nearly doubled the Facebook page's following in two years, and grew its average monthly video views from about two million to 11 million by spearheading the use of Facebook Live and a text-on-screen template. 

  • Kirsten grew @katutv's Instagram following by more than 1,200 percent, organizing a complete strategy overhaul and implementing the regular use of Stories and IGTV. @katutv consistently claimed the highest engagement rate in the market during her tenure. 

  • She also grew @KATUNews' Twitter following by 141 percent in two years, and implemented the regular use of Periscope's producer function and Twitter live to bring followers breaking news coverage from Portland and around the world. 

  • In addition to her social media growth for KATU, she also managed katu.com, which consistently grossed over 9 million monthly page views. ​

  • Kirsten consistently landed @wjlatv's Facebook page in the number one spot for monthly total interactions and video views out of Sinclair Broadcast Group's 170+ stations

  • She brought @wjlatv's Facebook page from fourth to first in the D.C. TV market for total interactions month-over-month during her tenure.

  • Kirsten increased Facebook Live presence and implemented the regular use of a text-on-screen video format to bring @wjlatv to number one status in the market for video views month-over-month. 

  • She also grew @abc7dc's Instagram following by 33 percent in six months. ​

Social video/live video, direction and production
 
Below is a sampling of hundreds of videos and live events Kirsten's sourced and produced, edited using a variety of systems including Adobe Premiere, Edius and AVID or streamed using Facebook's API function. In collaboration with a staff video editor, she provided creative and editorial direction, and ran logistics to make these stories come to life. 
A 32-day long standoff between the FBI and a group of armed ranchers in rural Oregon ends in bloodshed. Cell phone video shows the fatal shooting by a government agent of refuge occupier LaVoy Finicum. Kirsten collaborated with a KATU staff editor to produce and post this video before any other news organization in the Portland market. It amassed nearly 38,000 shares.  View post on Facebook  
Kirsten oversaw the production of this live feed, which tracked how a group of Democrats, Republicans and Independents felt about President Trump's first State of the Union Address. Using the technology of polling company DailSmith, the panel reacted to the speech as it unfolded using handheld dials. The production was cross-posted to nearly 30 Sinclair Broadcast Group station Facebook pages, landing it in the top 25 SOTU streams on Facebook (in terms of reach). It was the only stream from a local news outlet to make the list, beating NPR, CBS, Vice, Huffington Post and several other large national news corporations.  View on Facebook
Kirsten was an instrumental player in months of planning to bring both Oregonians and nationwide eclipse enthusiasts live coverage of the 2017 total solar eclipse. With crews stationed across the state of Oregon in the path of totality, KATU News showed Facebook watchers the sights and sounds from viewing parties, as well as the eclipse itself! KATU was the only Oregon news station chosen by Facebook to be featured in the platform's #EclipseLive section, reaching millions of viewers.  View on Facebook
Kirsten helped produce this breaking live coverage of a tragic workplace shooting in Harford County, Maryland. Her team brought viewers more than two hours of updates and developments as the search for the shooter ensued. The live feed amassed more than 8,000 shares. View on Facebook
Kirsten helped produce an hour-long special about mental health issues in young people. Her primary roles were managing the live stream and viewer comments, live tweeting, and working with producers, experts and hosts to prepare questions in the weeks leading up to the show. The town hall aired on Facebook a week before it ran on TV. View on Facebook
Most breast-feeding mothers produce about 20 to 30 ounces of milk a day, but this local mom produces nearly TWO GALLONS – and she's using it to save lives. Kirsten provided creative direction for this video and helped write the script.  View on Facebook

Kirsten's been working in radio since her freshman year of college, where she started as a production assistant at the University of Oregon's KWVA. By the end of her time in school she was the station's news director and DJ, hosting and producing weekly news and music shows and leading a team of student reporters. After school she went on to intern at Oregon's NPR affiliate in Portland and later worked as a DJ and social media coordinator at Portland Radio Project. She currently hosts a live, weekly alternative rock show at Radio Free Brooklyn in East Williamsburg, and teaches local high school students about radio broadcasting as the co-instructor for the station's 'Teen Squad' program.
